The report provides in-depth analyses of four African countries that have been at the forefront of sustainably expanding and growing their livestock sectors to benefit local communities through institutional innovation and innovative policymaking. Their successful policies and interventions, if replicated at scale, could enable African countries to make faster progress in the fight against poverty and hunger.

In Ethiopia, the government has adapted institutions and policies for livestock producers to ensure that the sector can help achieve commitments on poverty reduction, food security, and improved nutrition. Policies aim to build capacity in animal health, research, and marketing to support both domestic and export demand.
